When something does not work

Recover from sound, storage, spelling, import and download problems while preserving your current work.

Preserve important work first

Before reloading, clearing site data or changing browsers, download a JSON copy of any collection you need. Local collections belong to the current browser and site address. A troubleshooting step that removes site data can also remove valid saved work.

If saving is unavailable but the current selection is still open, use the export options to preserve what you can. An error message should tell you what failed; it should not imply that the browser has safely stored changes it could not write.

There is no sound

Choose Play after checking the device volume, output destination and muted-tab settings. A browser may require a direct interaction before audio can start. If an output is unavailable, the text, diagrams and local editing remain useful.

If a sound seems wrong, check the actual notes and octave labels. An inversion changes the bass, and a higher octave changes register. Neither change is evidence that the chord root or tuning reference has changed.

A note name looks unfamiliar

Check the root, scale or chord quality and degree formula. E-sharp in F-sharp major and C-flat in D-flat dominant seventh are intentional spellings. Substituting the familiar piano-key alias can hide the written musical relationship.

For an input error, use the note field’s example and enter a letter, optional accidental and optional octave. For an ambiguous selection, inspect every exact candidate. C, D and G alone do not establish a unique root.

A collection is missing or will not import

Confirm you are using the same browser profile and site address where it was saved. There is no account-based sync between devices. If local data was cleared, restore from an exported JSON file if you have one.

For an import error, check that the file is a ChordLilt JSON project rather than a PDF, SVG or unrelated document. An invalid file should leave existing collections unchanged. Do not keep retrying a destructive edit to the file; preserve its original copy while investigating.

An export does not appear

Check the browser’s downloads list and any download permission or blocking message. If the app reports a font or file-generation error, resolve it before relying on the output. Retry once the relevant resource is available.

When a visual export fails, download JSON to keep editable work and return to the visual file later. After a PDF succeeds, inspect the actual downloaded pages; the browser’s status alone cannot show whether your printer settings will fit the intended paper.

Describe a problem precisely

A useful report includes the page, selected root and quality or scale, actual note list, expected result and the steps that led to it. Include the browser and device if the problem concerns interaction or audio. Avoid private information and unnecessary complete collection files.

The Contact page explains the currently available help path. If no operator contact has been configured, there is no hidden support form or claim that your report has been sent.
